Tourism in Portland Parish has changed focus in recent years. The once touristy parish capital, Port Antonio has been usurped by resorts and settlements further to the west, with its Georgian buildings now standing empty as ruins. Pleasant to look at though it is, the town no longer has the infrastructure to support a growth in urban tourism, so the parish has begun looking to its natural attractions instead. Fortunately, the rural areas have plenty going for them, with rivers, islands, and beaches all found across the lush and biologically rich parish.
