Center of Fun in the Smokies

A tiny town with big tourist appeal, Pigeon Forge bills itself as the "Center of Fun in the Smokies." Just a short drive from the national park protecting the diverse plant and animal life of the Great Smoky Mountains, the town features numerous places to visit, such as bars, restaurants, cafes, theaters, and shops.
On the 18th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: catch some excitement at Rocky Top Mountain Coaster, kick your exploration up a notch at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, get in on the family fun at The Coaster at Goats on the Roof, then Head underground at Tuckaleechee Caverns, and finally admire all the interesting features of Foothills Parkway Southwest Parking.

Memphis to Pigeon Forge is an approximately 7.5-hour car ride. You can also drive; or fly; or do a combination of bus, subway, and car. The time zone changes from Central Standard Time (CST) to Eastern Standard Time (EST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Expect a bit cooler evenings in Pigeon Forge when traveling from Memphis in September, with lows around 62°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 19th (Sat) so you can go by car to Gatlinburg.

The Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains

Nestled in the lush, wooded forests of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg is Tennessee’s premier mountain resort destination.
Kick off your visit on the 20th (Sun): hike along Chimney Tops Trail, take in the awesome beauty at Mount LeConte, then cruise along Newfound Gap Road, and finally pause for some photo ops at Rockefeller Memorial. Keep things going the next day: trek along Gatlinburg Trail, then examine the collection at Christ in the Smokies Museum & Gardens, and then see the interesting displays at Hollywood Star Cars Museum.
