The port city of Niigata has an association with tourism, but not really one to do with the city itself.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Akatani Cycling Road and Shirone Kite Museum. We've included these beaches for you: Sekiyahama Beach and Sawada Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Niigata side-trips: Murakami (The Ruins of Murakami Castle & Sasagawa Nagare Beach), Chokokuji Temple (in Sado) and Kitakata (Kitamiyasuwa Shrine, Shingu Kumano Shrine Nagatoko, &more). There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Nishikaigan Park, see the interesting displays at Nigata City Manga no Ie, contemplate the long history of Enkinkan, and take in nature's colorful creations at Ikutopia Shoku Hana.

For where to stay, photos, traveler tips, and other tourist information, you can read our Niigata trip builder tool.

If you are flying in from Singapore, the closest major aiport is Niigata Airport. In July in Niigata, expect temperatures between 32°C during the day and 26°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 27th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
