Gibraltar of the North

While Luxembourg City boasts the shiny headquarters of several European institutions and EU offices, it is also home to a beautiful old town that's designated as a World Heritage Site.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Vianden Castle and Palace of the Grand Dukes (Palais Grand-Ducal). Popular historic sites such as Notre Dame Cathedral (Cathedrale Notre Dame) and MNHM National Museum of Military History are in your itinerary. Go for a jaunt from Luxembourg City to Diekirch to see Eglise St. Laurent about 40 minutes away. Oldest City in Germany

Trier may be the oldest city in Germany, founded long before the Roman times.
On the 12th (Fri), take in the spiritual surroundings of Liebfrauenkirche, Trier, admire the landmark architecture of St. Peter's Cathedral (Dom), hunt for treasures at Hauptmarkt, then admire the striking features of Konstantinbasilika, and finally get a sense of history and politics at Kurfurstliches Palais.
