Floating in the Bay of Naples, mountainous Isola d'Ischia boasts a 34 km (21 mi) long coastline. Nearly 6 million tourists vacation on this volcanic island every year, attracted by its famous thermal spas, beaches, and excellent food. The largest of its beachside towns, e Ischia, often called the Green Island, features a temperate climate allowing a range of Mediterranean plants to thrive in the fertile volcanic soil. On the southern side of the island, you'll see palms, cacti, and agave plants. Other places to visit include the almond groves, vineyards, and olive plantations that cover the northern side of Ischia. Farther away from the island's coastline, you can explore villas, gardens, and ancient towers.
