Tournai, known in Dutch as Doornik and historically as Dornick in English, is a Walloon municipality of Belgium, 85km southwest of Brussels on the river Scheldt. On the 20th (Fri), engage your brain at Pass - Parc d'aventures scientifiques, then learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Pairi Daiza, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Collegiale Sainte-Waudru. Here are some ideas for day two: make a trip to Grand-Place de Mons, then stroll the grounds of St Symphorien Military Cemetery, then don't miss a visit to Francois Duesberg Museum, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Belfry of Mons.

To find maps, where to stay, other places to visit, and tourist information, you can read our Tournai itinerary planner.

You can take a train from Charleroi to Tournai in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. Expect a daytime high around 23°C in September, and nighttime lows around 13°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 21st (Sat) early enough to catch the train back home.
