Dotted with extinct volcanoes, landlocked Burinam Province in Thailand's east no longer lives under the threat of a cataclysmic eruption, but it still feels the heat. With average high temperatures above 35 C (95 F) almost year-round, and no access to beaches, a trip to Buriram Province is sure to be a sweaty one. Still, it's worth the visit: the extensive Khmer history here--the fascinating ruins of which still grace the district's countryside--generates a good amount of tourism in Burinam Province. Lao and Northern Khmer languages, as well as Thai, are still widely spoken across the region.
