The state's commercial, if not political hub, Ahmedabad stands as a sprawling metropolis with some important historical sites.

Sabarmati Ashram / Mahatma Gandhi's Home and Sabarmati Riverfront are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get some historical perspective at Jami Masjid and Ambapur Stepwell. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Ahmedabad: Aalloa Hills Resort (in Gandhinagar), Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary (in Nalsarovar) and Thol Lake Bird Sanctuary (in Mehsana).
