Abisko's northern location free of light pollution makes it home to one of the greatest displays of the Northern Lights and midnight suns.

Stockholm to Abisko is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. When traveling from Stockholm in December, plan for slightly colder days and about the same nights in Abisko: temperatures range from 0°C by day to -2°C at night. You'll have a few hours on the 26th (Sat) to wrap things up before traveling to Kiruna.

Sweden's northernmost city, Kiruna remains best known for its proximity to the world's first hotel-museum built entirely of snow and ice.

Kick off your visit on the 26th (Sat): take an in-depth tour of Hjalmar Lundbohmsgarden Ek Forening and then pause for some serene contemplation at Kiruna Kyrka. On the next day, discover the riches below the earth's surface at LKAB's Visitor Centre, examine the collection at Sami Siida - Markanbaiki, and then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Jukkasjärvi Kyrka & Församlingsgård.

Drive from Abisko to Kiruna in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. When traveling from Abisko in December, plan for a bit cooler days and cooler nights in Kiruna: temperatures range from -6°C by day to -16°C at night. On the 28th (Mon), you'll have the morning to explore before heading back home.
