Hexham is a market town and civil parish in Northumberland, England, south of the River Tyne, and was the administrative centre for the Tynedale district from 1974 to 2009. Get out of town with these interesting Hexham side-trips: Cawfields Roman Wall (in Haltwhistle), West Woodburn (Mary Ann Rogers Gallery & Slate & Nature) and Kielder (Kielder Waterside, Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre, & more). Alnwick is a relatively large market town in north Northumberland, England, of which it is the county town. Explore Alnwick's surroundings by going to Caistron Trout Fishery (in Rothbury), T J Falconry (in Berwick upon Tweed) and Spittal Beach (in Spittal). There's still lots to do: step into the grandiose world of The Alnwick Garden, identify plant and animal life at Branton Lakes Nature Reserve, contemplate the waterfront views at Embleton Bay, and enjoy the sand and surf at Low Newton by the Sea Beach.
