Lima

— 43 nights

City of the Kings

Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
For shopping fun, head to Shopping Center Larcomar (Centro Comercial Larcomar) or Galeria Indigo. Get a sense of the local culture at Miraflores and Huaca Pucllana. Explore Lima's surroundings by going to Callao (Wetlands of Ventanilla, Museo de Sitio Naval- Submarino Ex Bap Abtao, &more), Toboganes de Songos (in San Jeronimo de Surco) and Playa Santa Maria del Mar (in Santa Maria Del Mar). There's much more to do: wander the streets of Barranco, pause for some serene contemplation at Museo Convento San Francisco y Catacumbas, see the interesting displays at Museo Nacional de Arqueologia, Antropologia e Historia del Peru, and indulge in some culinary diversions at a local gastronomic tour.

If you are flying in from India, the closest major aiport is Jorge Chávez International Airport. In December, plan for daily highs up to 28°C, and evening lows to 22°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Sat) to allow time to travel back home.
