Sasebo

With its U.S. Navy base, Sasebo has certainly developed pockets with an international feel: in downtown, often known as Sailor Town, you'll happen upon a number of eateries serving American-style hamburgers.
Take a break from the city and head to Kujukushima Pearl Sea Resort and Kujuku Island. Kids will enjoy Ishidake Observatory and Nagasaki Bio Park. Venture out of the city with trips to Yutoku Inari Shrine (in Kashima), Catholic Tabira Church (in Hirado) and Takeo Onsen (in Takeo). The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II. This history, of course, remains important to the city, its inhabitants, and to the wider world, and should not be forgotten.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Gamadasu Dome (Mt. Unzen Disaster Memorial Hall) and Sakitsu Catholic Church. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Nabekanmuriyama Park and Hamamachi Arcade (Hamanmachi Shopping Street).
