A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Venture out of the city with trips to Otaru (Tomioka Catholic Church & Otaru Canal), Noboribetsu (Jigokudani & Noboribetsu Date Historic Village) and Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery (in Yoichi-cho). There's still lots to do: walk around Odori Park, hit the slopes at Okurayama Lookout, take a stroll around Sapporo Underground Shopping Centre Aurora Town, and contemplate the long history of Hokkaido Jingu.

Amsterdam, Holland to Sapporo is an approximately 18.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 8 hours traveling from Amsterdam to Sapporo. Traveling from Amsterdam in November, expect nights in Sapporo to be about the same, around 3°C, while days are little chillier, around 6°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Fri) so you can travel to Kanazawa.

In November, Kanazawa is somewhat warmer than Sapporo - with highs of 17°C and lows of 8°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Tue) so you can catch the train to Kyoto.
