Hualien

Huashi

Nestled between the sea and the mountains, Hualien boasts a number of attractions, both natural and manmade.
Hualien is known for trails, nature, and beaches. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: trek along Taroko Gorge, don't miss a visit to Chongde Bay, get outside with Baiyang Trail, and steep yourself in history at Gangtiangong.

You can drive from Taitung to Hualien in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Sat) early enough to travel to Nantou.

Nantou

Nantou provides good access to the cultural and natural sites of the surrounding county of the same name.
Change things up with a short trip to Gaomei Wetland in Qingshui (about 56 minutes away). On the 10th (Mon), dedicate a day to the elevated beauty of Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area. Pack the 12th (Wed) with family-friendly diversions at Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village. The adventure continues: explore the activities along Sun Moon Lake, take in the architecture and design of National Chi Nan University, make a trip to Ci'en Pagoda, and explore the wealth of natural beauty at Wenwumiaohoushan Park.

Traveling by combination of train and bus from Hualien to Nantou takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. In May, plan for daily highs up to 34°C, and evening lows to 26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Fri) to allow time to drive to Alishan.

On the 15th (Sat), enjoy breathtaking views from Zhushan Sunrise Observation Deck, then go for a walk through Alishan Shenmu Area, then delve into the lush surroundings at Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, and finally go for a walk through Alishan Sacred Tree. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 16th (Sun): hike along Tashan Trail, make a trip to Yuyupas, and then stroll around Yuantan Ecological Park.

Magong

Most visitors take a trip to Magong to see Penghu's iconic landmark, the famed Tianhou Gong Mazu temple, honoring the Chinese sea goddess and dating back to the 16th century.
Get out of town with these interesting Magong side-trips: Xiyu (Waianer, Siyu, &more) and Niaoyu (in Baisha Township). There's lots more to do: don't miss a visit to Cimeiyu, take in the history at Dongtai Fort, examine the collection at Crab Museum, and get great views at Kueibishan.

You can do a combination of taxi and flight from Alishan to Magong in 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi, train, and flight; or do a combination of taxi and ferry. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 20th (Thu) to allow time to fly to Jincheng.

Jincheng

Jincheng Township is an urban township on the southwestern corner of the island of Kinmen (Quemoy). When in Jincheng, make a side trip to see Chenjinglan Mansion in Jinsha, approximately Jinsha away. There's still lots to do: examine the collection at The Wind Lion Cutural Museum, make a trip to Qionglin Residential Community, head off the coast to Kinmen Island, and delve into the lush surroundings at Zhongshan Forest.
