Tucked away on the wild southern coast of Mauritius, the village of Bel Ombre feels somewhat off the beaten track, yet the five-star resorts and hotels offer as comfortable and luxurious a vacation as anywhere on the island.Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Centre Equestre De Riambel and Avalon Golf Estate. Explore Bel Ombre's surroundings by going to La Vanille Nature Park (in Riviere des Anguilles) and Bois Cheri (La Route du The, du Rhum et de la Vanille & Bois Cheri Tea Factory and Tea Museum). There's lots more to do: take a tour by water with Lifestyle Boating Mauritius, see the interesting displays at Robert Edward Hart Memorial Museum, whizz through the canopy at CHAZAL ecotourisme, and brush up on your knowledge of spirits at La Plantation de Saint Aubin.
To see more things to do, photos, where to stay, and more tourist information, go to the Bel Ombre trip planner.
Chamarel to Bel Ombre is an approximately 1-hour car ride. Expect a daytime high around 30°C in September, and nighttime lows around 22°C. On the 30th (Fri), you're off to home.

Savanne District travel guide
Largely unspoiled scenery makes up the Savanne District. The rugged and wild coastline of southern Mauritius features views of bays battered by the tides, but you'll also find more tranquil beaches with shallow waters that are ideal for snorkeling and water sports. Nature trails criss-cross mountainous as well as flat terrain through protected areas where crocodiles, parrots, and stags live. Visitors come to experience waterfalls, rock formations, and lush vegetation.
