Packed with old stone churches in a unique urban landscape, La Serena represents one of Chile's oldest settlements, equally popular with architecture buffs and beachgoers.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Cruz Del Tercer Milenio and Catedral de La Serena. Step out of the city life by going to Valle del Elqui and Avenida del Mar. Get out of town with these interesting La Serena side-trips: Playa Guanaqueros (in Guanaqueros), Reserva Nacional Pinguino de Humboldt (in Punta Choros) and Vicuna (Planetario Natural Alfa Aldea, Teatro Municipal, & more). Spend the 10th (Wed) exploring nature at Fray Jorge National Park. There's lots more to do: head off the coast to Isla Damas, visit a coastal fixture at Faro Monumental de La Serena, enjoy the sand and surf at Totoralillo, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Playa La Herradura.

Surrounded by the Atacama Desert, Copiapo receives very little rainfall and owes its existence to the mining industry.
Escape the urban bustle at Desierto Florido and Playa Chorrillos. Explore Copiapo's surroundings by going to Museo Minero de Tierra Amarilla (in Tierra Amarilla) and Caldera (Playa la virgen, Casa Tornini Museo - Centro Cultural, & more). Next up on the itinerary: enjoy the sand and surf at Bahia Inglesa, get outside with Bahia Cisne, don't miss a visit to Cerro Medanoso, and make a splash at Parque Alliyay.
