City of Peace

The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II. This history, of course, remains important to the city, its inhabitants, and to the wider world, and should not be forgotten.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Genemongama Aritakamamoto and Mirai Nagasaki Coco Walk. Appreciate the collections at Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Nagasaki side-trips: Mifuneyama Rakuen (in Takeo), Arita Townscape (in Arita-cho) and Amakusa (White Crane Beach Beaches, Sakuragi Looklouts, &more). There's much more to do: admire the natural beauty at Glover Garden, contemplate the long history of Shinchi Chinatown, take in the spiritual surroundings of Sōfuku-ji Temple, and stroll around Nagasaki Peace Park.

Manila, Philippines to Nagasaki is an approximately 6.5-hour flight. The time zone changes from Philippine Standard Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. Traveling from Manila in May, expect Nagasaki to be a bit cooler, temps between 28°C and 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Thu) early enough to drive to Fukuoka.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Head to Tenjin Underground Shopping Center and Kobo Tottanfor some retail therapy. Get some historical perspective at Dazaifu Tenman-gu and Nijino Matsubara. Venture out of the city with trips to Imari Nabeshima Gallery (in Imari), Tenzan Sake Brewery (in Ogi) and Saga (Yoshijimake Dantsu Museum & Suaeda Japonica Habitat). You can drive from Nagasaki to Fukuoka in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. In May in Fukuoka, expect temperatures between 28°C during the day and 18°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Thu) so you can take a train to Hiroshima.

Traveling by train from Fukuoka to Hiroshima takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of flight and ferry. June in Hiroshima sees daily highs of 30°C and lows of 23°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel back home.
