Durango

— 40 nights
Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Get out of town with these interesting Durango side-trips: Aztec (Aztec Ruins National Monument & Aztec Museum and Pioneer Village), Cortez (Notah Dineh Trading Company and Museum, Hovenweep National Monument, &more) and Farmington (Lions Wilderness Disc Golf Course, Pinon Hills Golf Course, &more). Spend the 18th (Fri) exploring nature at Mesa Verde National Park. The adventure continues: see Off-Road Tours, pause for some photo ops at Four Corners Monument, get outside with Outdoor Activities, and delve into the lush surroundings at San Juan National Forest.

For ratings, other places to visit, maps, and other tourist information, go to the Durango road trip planning tool.

In May, daytime highs in Durango are 68°F, while nighttime lows are 35°F.
