Saitama

— 3 nights
Though a fairly large city in its own right, Saitama has become known primarily for its proximity to the capital, Tokyo.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Saitama: Karuizawa-machi (Tombo no Yu, Stone Church, &more), Shibukawa (Ikaho Stone Steps & Mizusawaji) and Tomioka Silk Mill (in Tomioka). Next up on the itinerary: take in the spiritual surroundings of Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine, steep yourself in history at Jigan-ji Temple, make a trip to Kawagoe Ichibangai Shopping Street, and walk around Saitama Prefecture Omiya Park.

If you are flying in from Australia, the closest major aiports are Tokyo Haneda International Airport, Narita International Airport, Ibaraki Airport / JASDF Hyakuri Air Base and Yokota Air Base. Expect a daytime high around 36°C in August, and nighttime lows around 28°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 13th (Thu) so you can travel back home.
