City by the Sea

With coastline on the west, south, and east, Newport is a maritime city with a rich history.
Get some cultural insight at The Breakers and Cliff Walk. Kids will appreciate attractions like Chateau-sur-Mer and Narragansett Beach. Explore Newport's surroundings by going to Misquamicut State Beach (in Misquamicut), Fantastic Umbrella Factory (in Charlestown) and Watch Hill Outfitters (in Westerly). There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Salty Brine State Beach, take in a show at WaterFire, look for gifts at Venda Ravioli, and learn about winemaking at Newport Vineyards.

For traveler tips, where to stay, ratings, and more tourist information, read Newport holiday builder app.

Jacksonville to Newport is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Jacksonville in June, things will get slightly colder in Newport: highs are around 73°F and lows about 58°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Sat) early enough to fly back home.

The Ocean State
Despite being the country's smallest state, Rhode Island includes over 640 km (400 mi) of coastline, courtesy of Narragansett Bay and more than 30 islands. Most of the state is part of the U.S. mainland, despite its somewhat misleading name. Though it takes only about 40 minutes to drive across this tiny state, Rhode Island includes more white sandy beaches than most visitors can hope to explore on a single trip. The state's one big city and surrounding small towns brim with places to visit, such as museums, galleries, restaurants, bars, and historical neighborhoods packed with colonial-era buildings. Although the state may seem small, your holiday itinerary is sure to be chock-full.
