Oswiecim

— 3 nights
Known to most by its German name Auschwitz, the modestly sized city of Oswiecim sits at the foot of the Jura Mountains, just 50 km (30 mi) west of Krakow.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau and Family Home of John Paul II. Museum-lovers will get to explore Jewish Museum and Synagogue and Muzeum Zamkowe w Pszczynie. Get out of town with these interesting Oswiecim side-trips: Zamek Lipowiec (in Chrzanow), Wadowice (Minor Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary & John Paul II Square in Wadowice) and Cieszyn (Old Market Square, Piastowska Tower, &more). And it doesn't end there: get to know the fascinating history of Main Market Square, pause for some photo ops at Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, pause for some serene contemplation at Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Helper of Christians, and get engrossed in the history at Zamek Museum.

For other places to visit, reviews, and other tourist information, read our Oswiecim holiday maker site.

If you are flying in from The Netherlands, the closest major aiports are Kraków John Paul II International Airport and Katowice International Airport. In July in Oswiecim, expect temperatures between 29°C during the day and 15°C at night.
