Capital of the Ryukyu Kingdom

Naha, the capital of Okinawa, has deep roots: Stone Age relics have been found in the city, and through the Middle Ages it rose in importance in the Ryukyu Kingdom.
Kick off your visit on the 21st (Mon): take in the spiritual surroundings of St. Clara Church, then kick back and relax at Tropical Beach, then contemplate the long history of Keiseimon Gate, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Shurijo Castle.

Tokyo to Naha is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and ferry; or do a combination of train, bus, and ferry. Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from Tokyo in September, with highs in Naha at 36°C and lows at 30°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 21st (Mon) so you can travel to Zamami-son.

The village of Zamami-son in the western Kerama Islands spans four of the islands in the group, one of which remains uninhabited.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
