Hazyview

— 3 nights
A gateway to the popular Kruger National Park, Hazyview boasts an enviable location in South Africa's lowveld, surrounded by a staggering number of both natural and historic sites.
Change things up with these side-trips from Hazyview: Nelspruit (Safaris, Lowveld National Botanical Garden, &more), Graskop (Wonder View, Panorama Route, &more) and Antiques & Artifacts (in White River). There's still lots to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Elephant Whispers, take in the dramatic natural features at Bourkes' Luck Potholes, and explore the stunning scenery at Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve.

For ratings, photos, where to stay, and more tourist information, you can read our Hazyview road trip site.

Johannesburg to Hazyview is an approximately 2.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Johannesburg in September, plan for somewhat warmer nights in Hazyview, with lows around 16°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Mon) early enough to fly back home.

Mpumalanga travel guide

National Parks · Nature & Parks · Geologic Formations
Hike through the world's third-highest canyon, and the only green one in the world; explore the world's oldest cave; and witness the diverse wildlife in the many reserves of Mpumalanga. This "place where the sun rises," as the name means in local tongues, features stunning mountain scenery, lush valleys, and charming towns with refreshingly cool weather. Mpumalanga's attractions draw crowds of visitors from far and wide: follow the trails of the 19th-century gold rush in old gold-seeker's towns, rappel down a waterfall, or just take a dip in the pools below after a hike through the rainforests.
