A cultural capital on the state's relatively quiet northern coast, Kannur has long been associated with textile production and temple rituals, earning it the nickname, the "Land of Looms and Lores." Most Kannur itineraries will include observing theyyam rituals performed at the temples, where the traditions have origins dating back thousands of years.
Take a break from the city and head to Thottada Beach and Paithalmala Hill Station. Visit Payyambalam Beach and KIzhunna Beach for some beach relaxation. There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach, stroll through Dharmadam Beach, take an in-depth tour of Arakkal Museum, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Kottiyoor Mahadeva Temple.
