Founded by Vikings over a thousand years ago, Limerick sitsĀ at the head of the Shannon River's broadening estuary.
Venture out of the city with trips to Foynes Flying Boat Museum (in Foynes) and Desmond Hall (in Newcastle West). There's still lots to do: step into the grandiose world of King John's Castle, tour the pleasant surroundings at Curragh Chase Forest Park, enjoy the scholastic atmosphere at University of Limerick, and take in the exciting artwork at Draiocht.

For other places to visit, photos, traveler tips, and more tourist information, refer to the Limerick trip maker app .

Dublin to Limerick is an approximately 2.5-hour car ride. You can also take a train; or take a bus. In August, daily temperatures in Limerick can reach 21°C, while at night they dip to 14°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 27th (Mon) early enough to go by car back home.
