The Queen City

A rapidly growing city in central North Carolina, Charlotte is the state's largest urban center and a major regional hub for finance, industry, technology, and entertainment.
Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Charlotte: Kersey Valley Zip Line (in Archdale), Old Salem Museums & Gardens (in Winston Salem) and Elkin Municipal Park (in Elkin). There's still lots to do: examine the collection at NASCAR Hall of Fame, stroll the grounds of Old Settlers Cemetery, walk around Freedom Park, and get curious at Discovery Place Science.

To see photos, where to stay, reviews, and tourist information, go to the Charlotte trip itinerary planning website.

Gaithersburg to Charlotte is an approximately 4-hour combination of car and flight. You can also drive. When traveling from Gaithersburg in November, plan for somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Charlotte: temperatures range from 63°F by day to 39°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sun) to allow enough time to travel back home.
