Lima

— 38 nights

City of the Kings

Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Get out of town with these interesting Lima side-trips: Huaral (Reserva Nacional Lomas de Lachay & Complejo Arqueologico de Rupac), Rio Lunahuana (in Lunahuana) and El Canon de Austisha (in Huarochiri). And it doesn't end there: take an in-depth tour of Museo Larco, contemplate the long history of Huaca Pucllana, get a taste of the local shopping with Shopping Center Larcomar (Centro Comercial Larcomar), and pause for some serene contemplation at Museo Convento San Francisco y Catacumbas.

If you are flying in from Australia, the closest major aiport is Jorge Ch├ívez International Airport. In June, daily temperatures in Lima can reach 24°C, while at night they dip to 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
