Riga

— 36 nights

Paris of the North

Often referred to as "The Paris of the North," Riga offers thriving nightlife and some of the best collections of Art Nouveau architecture in Europe.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Riga: Jurmala (Kemeri National Park, Summer House and Garden Complex of Kristaps and Auguste Morbergs, &more), Salaspils (Salaspils Botanic Garden & Salaspils Memorial Ensemble) and 333 Sports Complex (in Silakrogs). There's much more to do: take a stroll through Old City Riga (Vecriga), pause for some photo ops at Freedom Monument, enjoy the sand and surf at Jurmala Beach, and take in the spiritual surroundings of St. Peter's Church.

To find other places to visit, photos, reviews, and more tourist information, refer to the Riga road trip planning tool.

Cairo, Egypt to Riga is an approximately 10-hour flight. You can also drive. While traveling from Cairo, expect colder days and a bit cooler nights in Riga, ranging from highs of 26°C to lows of 17°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 31st (Sat) so you can travel back home.

Nestled between Estonia and Lithuania, Latvia has a small but developing tourist industry and the country is authentic and welcoming. The Baltic coast stretches 500 km (310 mi) along Latvia's northern border, and lush green forests cover nearly half of the country. Founded in 1918, Latvia was occupied by both the Nazis and the Soviet Union, who incorporated the country and did not restore independence until 1991. Due to centuries of foreign rule, the country boasts a mix of ethnic backgrounds, while maintaining the Latvian language. With cosmopolitan Riga as the capital, Latvia offers a mix of urban excitement and rural nature.
