Barcelona, the country’s second-largest city, is a cosmopolitan urban center known for its throbbing youthful energy and stellar architecture.
When in Barcelona, make a side trip to see PortAventura in Salou, approximately 1h 30 min away. There's much more to do: admire the striking features of Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, walk around Parc Guell, explore the world behind art at Museu Picasso, and pause for some photo ops at Casa Mila - La Pedrera.

Best known as a fortified town, Carcassonne is a walled city that provided the inspiration for the castle in Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" and the location for many scenes in Kevin Costner's movie "Robin Hood." For a daily dose of excitement, medieval jousting tournaments are held twice per day between the two walls--while this may sound like a typical touristy show, it's actually an entertaining display of combative competition and horsemanship.
On the 25th (Fri), learn about winemaking at O'Vineyards, step into the grandiose world of Chateau Comtal, then contemplate the long history of Cathar Castles, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Eglise Saint-Nazaire, and finally wander the streets of Cité de Carcassonne. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 26th (Sat): admire the local landmark of Fountain of Neptune, then Head underground at Gouffre Geant de Cabrespine, then contemplate the waterfront views at Canal du Midi, and finally explore the activities along Lac de la Cavayere.

Explore Bordeaux's surroundings by going to Dune du Pilat (in La Teste-de-Buch) and Aquarium La Rochelle (in La Rochelle).
