You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Head to Central Market Hall and Ecseri Flea Market (Ecseri bolhapiac)for some retail therapy. Your inner history buff will appreciate Halaszbastya and St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika). Take a break from Budapest with a short trip to Eger Castle in Eger, about 2 hours away. There's lots more to do: admire the striking features of Matthias Church, wander the streets of Vaci Street, see the interesting displays at House of Terror Museum, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Dohány Street Synagogue.

Melbourne, Australia to Budapest is an approximately 25-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight and shuttle. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 9 hours traveling from Melbourne to Budapest. Traveling from Melbourne in December, expect Budapest to be much colder, temps between 5°C and -1°C. A beautiful and romantic city fit for any itinerary, Paris brims with historic associations and remains vastly influential in the realms of culture, art, fashion, food and design.
Get some historical perspective at Champs-Elysees and Basilique du Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre. Head to Le Marais and Saint Germain des Pres Quarterfor plenty of shopping. Change things up with a short trip to Palace of Versailles in Versailles (about 48 minutes away).
