Though a fairly large city in its own right, Saitama has become known primarily for its proximity to the capital, Tokyo.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Saitama: Matsubushi Midorinooka Park (in Matsubushi-machi), Tantoku Garden (in Kawagoe) and Koshigaya (Campbell Town Park, Hisaizu Shrine, &more). There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine, admire the masterpieces at The Omiya Bonsai Art Museum Saitama, make a trip to Kitain, and walk around Saitama Prefecture Omiya Park.

Chichibu

A little rural reprieve not far from the capital, the city of Chichibu draws visitors with its vibrant landscape and pleasant, low-key urban attractions.
Explore Chichibu's surroundings by going to Hanno (Naguri Lake (Arima Dam), Toriikannon, &more), Ogose-machi (Sekai Mumei Senshi no Haka & Kamiyatsuno Okusuu) and Hidaka (Gojo Falls, Mt. Hiwada, &more). The adventure continues: make a trip to Misotsuchi Icicles (Misotsuchinotsurara), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mitsumine Shrine, visit Nakatsu River, and admire the engineering at Takizawa Dam.

Traveling by car from Saitama to Chichibu takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. Traveling from Saitama in February, Chichibu is slightly colder at night with lows of -1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 6th (Fri) so you can travel to Kumagaya.

Kumagaya is a city located in Saitama Prefecture, in the central Kantō region of Japan., the city had an estimated population of 198,440 and a population density of 1240 persons per km². Get out of town with these interesting Kumagaya side-trips: Sakado (Five Thousand Soaring Dragons Seitenkyu Temple & Sakado City Historic Folk Museum), Higashimatsuyama (Saitama Children Zoo, Peace Museum of Saitama, &more) and Suneori Zelkova Tree (in Tsurugashima). Saitama Prefecture is a landlocked prefecture of Japan located in the Kantō region of the island of Honshu. Chichibu Province was in western Saitama.Saitama Prefecture was formerly part of the old Musashi Province.In the fifth year of the Keiun era, deposits of copper were reported to have been found in the Chichibu District of what is now Saitama Prefecture.The Saitama area was historically known as a fertile agricultural region which produced much of the food for the Kantō region. During the Edo period, many fudai daimyōs ruled small domains within the Saitama area.After World War II, as Tokyo expanded rapidly and modern transportation allowed longer commutes, the lack of available land in Tokyo led to the rapid development of Saitama Prefecture, where the population has nearly tripled since 1960. Most of the cities in the prefecture are closely connected to downtown Tokyo by metropolitan rail, and operate largely as residential and commercial suburbs of Tokyo.
