Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Food Tours and Ueno. Venture out of the city with trips to Sky Garden (in Yokohama), Narita (Naritasan Omote Sando, Narita International Airport Terminal 1, & more) and Mt. Takao (in Hachioji). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, get in on the family fun at Yomiuri Land, stroll around Meiji Jingu Gaien, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Kashima Jingū Shrine.

Singapore, Singapore to Tokyo is an approximately 10.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight, taxi, and train. The time zone changes from Singapore Time (SGT) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Expect cooler temperatures when traveling from Singapore in December; daily highs in Tokyo reach 14°C and lows reach 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sun) so you can travel to Hakone-machi.

Sitting at the foot of Mount Fuji, Hakone-machi has become a popular retreat from Tokyo for locals and tourists alike.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Sun): admire the masterpieces at Hakone Museum of Art, explore the world behind art at The Hakone Open-Air Museum, then contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Ashi (Ashinoko), and finally steep yourself in history at Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu. On the 6th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: see the interesting displays at Lalique Museum Hakone, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Choanji Temple, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Kintoki, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Hakone-machi takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Tokyo in January, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Hakone-machi: temperatures range from 5°C by day to 3°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 7th (Tue) early enough to travel to Hiroshima.

Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to JMSDF Kure Museum and Okunoshima Island. Change things up with a short trip to Itsukushima Shrine in Hatsukaichi (about 58 minutes away). There's still lots to do: appreciate the history behind Peace Bell, steep yourself in history at Atomic Bomb Dome, take in the spiritual surroundings of Mitaki Temple, and contemplate the waterfront views at Motoyasu River.

Getting from Hakone-machi to Hiroshima by train takes about 5 hours. Other options: fly; or drive. While traveling from Hakone-machi, expect a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Hiroshima, ranging from highs of 11°C to lows of 2°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Thu) to allow enough time to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step off the beaten path and head to Ise Shrine Geku and Walking tours. Explore Kyoto's surroundings by going to Nabana no Sato (in Kuwana), Ise (Oharai-machi & Sengukan) and Amanohashidate (in Miyazu). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, explore the world behind art at Byodo-in Temple Museum Hoshokan, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine.
