One of east Asia's major cultural and financial centers, Seoul boasts five World Heritage Sites and a huge selection of museums, temples, shrines, palaces, parks, gardens, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers.
Head to Myeongdong Shopping Street and Namdaemun Marketfor some retail therapy. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Hwaseong Fortress and Jongmyo Shrine. Go for a jaunt from Seoul to Paju to see DMZ Haemaru Village about 1h 30 min away. There's lots more to do: steep yourself in history at Gyeongbokgung Palace, wander the streets of Insadong, visit Bukchon Hanok Village, and get engrossed in the history at National Museum of Korea.

Appreciate the collections at Edo-Tokyo Museum and Pola Museum of Art. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Yokohama Minato Mirai 21 and Takeshita Street. Step out of Tokyo with an excursion to Katabira-gawa Shinsui Ryokudo in Yokohama--about 56 minutes away. There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Senso-ji Temple, examine the collection at Samurai Museum, explore the world behind art at Tokyo National Museum, and stop by Asakusa.
