Gyeongju

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Republic of Korea, Gyeongju combines a rich cultural heritage with mountain and coastal scenery.
Get out of town with these interesting Gyeongju side-trips: Seomun Market (in Daegu) and Eunhaesa Temple (in Yeongcheon). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Bulguksa Temple, explore the activities along Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, appreciate the history behind Seokguram, and look for all kinds of wild species at Gyeongju Bird Park.

Traveling by car from Busan to Gyeongju takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. Traveling from Busan in May, expect nights in Gyeongju to be about the same, around 18°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 18°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Sat) so you can go by car to Andong.

Sitting along either side of the Nakdong River, Andong maintains an unrivalled reputation as a center for Korean folk and cultural heritage.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Andong: Cheongnyangsa Temple (in Bonghwa-gun), Cheongsong-gun (Jusanji Pond & Juwangsan National Park) and Buseoksa Temple (in Yeongju).
