The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas and Dantas Store are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Visit Walled City of Cartagena and Sanctuary of Saint Peter Claver for their historical value. When in Cartagena, make a side trip to see Playa Blanca in Isla Baru, approximately Isla Baru away.
