Gongju, also spelt Kongju, is a city in South Chungcheong province, South Korea.HistoryGongju was formerly named Ungjin and was the capital of Baekje from AD 475 to 538. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Gongju: Gwanchoksa Temple (in Nonsan) and Buyeo-gun (Nakhwaam Rock, Buyeo National Museum, &more). There's much more to do: steep yourself in history at Gongsanseong, see the interesting displays at Gongju National Museum, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Gapsa temple.
