Okayama

— 30 nights
A major transit hub in western Japan, Okayama provides a convenient mid-point between Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Momotaro Statue and Inujima Seirensho Art Museum. Explore Okayama's surroundings by going to Tonosho-cho (Teshima Island & Picture Letter of Stone), Takamatsu (Sunport Fountain, Thermal Spas, &more) and Setouchi (Traditional Townscape of Bizen Fukuoka & Bizen Osafune Token Village). There's much more to do: step off the mainland to explore Inujima, step into the grandiose world of Okayama Castle, admire the natural beauty at Okayama Korakuen Garden, and explore the world behind art at Yumeji Art Museum (Yumeji-Kyodo Bijutsukan).

To find maps, traveler tips, other places to visit, and more tourist information, you can read our Okayama itinerary planning app.

Fukuoka to Okayama is an approximately 2.5-hour train ride. You can also do a combination of flight, tram, and train; or drive. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Fukuoka in December: high temperatures in Okayama hover around 10°C and lows are around 1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 31st (Tue) so you can catch the train back home.
