Visit Nijo-jo Castle and Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine for their historical value. Get a sense of the local culture at Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Sanjusangendo Temple. Step out of Kyoto with an excursion to Hikone Castle in Hikone--about 1h 35 min away. Traveling by train from Kanazawa to Kyoto takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. In March, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 16°C, while at night they dip to 5°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Wed) early enough to travel to Iriomote-jima.
