A resort town located in the foothills of Mount Fuji, Fujikawaguchiko-machi acts as a base for many who plan to take one of the trails up the iconic volcano.
Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Fujikawaguchiko-machi: Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine (in Fujinomiya), Hakone-machi (Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu, The Hakone Open-Air Museum, &more) and Ikeda museum of 20th century art (in Ito). Drive from Fujikawaguchiko-machi to Matsumoto in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and train. Traveling from Fujikawaguchiko-machi in December, expect slightly colder with lows of 0°C in Matsumoto. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Sat) early enough to catch the train to Kanazawa.

Venture out of the city with trips to Ohara Museum of Art (in Kurashiki), Kunimi no Mori Park (in Shiso) and Okayama Korakuen Garden (in Okayama).
