Braga

— 30 nights

Portuguese Rome

Referred to as the Portuguese Rome for its number churches, Braga represents an old town that today is the country's third-largest city. Situated in northwest Portugal, Braga boasts many narrow pedestrian streets, plazas, and spiritual pilgrimage destinations.
Visiting The Douro Valley and Pincaes Cascate will get you outdoors. Head to Forum Aveiro and Galeria Mario Sequeirafor plenty of shopping. Venture out of the city with trips to Vila Nova de Gaia (Casa Ramos Pinto, Ferreira Cellars, &more), Torreira Beach (in Torreira) and Guimaraes (Centro Historico de Guimaraes, Igreja e Convento de Sao Francisco, &more). The adventure continues: take some stellar pictures from Elevador do Bom Jesus do Monte, take in the spiritual surroundings of Santuario Nossa Senhora dos Remedios, steep yourself in history at Casa de Mateus, and explore the historical opulence of Guimaraes Castle.

If you are flying in from Brazil, the closest major aiport is Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport. In September in Braga, expect temperatures between 27°C during the day and 16°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
