One of the hippest urban centers in the northeastern part of the country, Newcastle upon Tyne once had a reputation for being an industrial wasteland with little to offer casual tourists.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Newcastle upon Tyne: Coniston (Weatherlam Mountain, Hodge Close Trail, & more), York (York Shambles, York Minster, & more) and Durham Cathedral (in Durham). Spend the 21st (Tue) exploring nature at Lake District National Park Guided Walks. There's much more to do: test your team's savvy at The Escape Key, engage your brain at The Discovery Museum, make a trip to Grey Street, and have some family-friendly fun at Flight Sim Centre.

If you are flying in from Canada, the closest major airports are Newcastle Airport, Durham Tees Valley Airport and Leeds Bradford Airport. In January, plan for daily highs up to 7°C, and evening lows to 1°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 31st (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
