A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Motomachi and Hakodate Orthodox Church. Step off the beaten path and head to The Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward and Onuma Park Walking Path. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Hakodate: Old Nakamura Residence (in Esashi-cho) and Kaminokuni-cho (The Ruins of Katsuyamadate Guidance Center & Old Sasanami Family Residenc). The adventure continues: make a trip to Hachimanzaka, take in the spiritual surroundings of Trappistine Monasteries, test the waters at a local thermal spa, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Motomachi Catholic Church.

Miyakojima

Miyakojima
A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Sunayama Beach and Aragusuku Beach. Kids will enjoy Toguchi no Hama and Nagamahama Beach Coast.
