Kutchan-cho's reputation rests on two things: skiing and potatoes.
Get in touch with nature at Niseko Moiwa Ski Resort and White Isle Niseko. Get some historical perspective at Tomioka Catholic Church and Cape Kamui Lighthouse. Get a sense of the local culture at Inami Betsuin Zuisen-ji Temple and Kanazawa Noh Museum. Visit Hakusan Shrine (Heisenji-Hakusan Shrine) and Yatsuo no Machinami for their historical value. Change things up with these side-trips from Kanazawa: Ogimachi (in Shirakawa-mura) and Tedori Gorge (in Hakusan). Traveling from Kutchan-cho in April, you will find days in Kanazawa are a bit warmer (20°C), and nights are about the same (8°C). Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Mon) so you can drive to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Take a break from the city and head to Mt. Wakakusa and Rokuen. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Jojakkoji Temple and Yasakanoto. Change things up with these side-trips from Kyoto: Yamanobe Street (in Tenri), Sakurai (Omiwa Shrine, Sai Shrine, &more) and Kashihara Jingu (in Kashihara). You can drive from Kanazawa to Kyoto in 3 hours. Another option is to take a train. In April in Kyoto, expect temperatures between 22°C during the day and 11°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Sat) so you can catch the flight to Yakushima-cho.

Yakushima-cho

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.

Traveling by flight from Kyoto to Yakushima-cho takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and ferry; or do a combination of train, bus, and ferry. Expect a bit warmer evenings in Yakushima-cho when traveling from Kyoto in April, with lows around 17°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 12th (Tue) so you can travel to Iriomote-jima.

Iriomote-jima

Expect a bit warmer temperatures when traveling from Yakushima-cho in April; daily highs in Iriomote-jima reach 30°C and lows reach 24°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 16th (Sat) early enough to catch the ferry to Ishigaki.

Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
