The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Himeji: Daisen Outlook (in Mimasaka), Mt. Kuma (in Bizen) and Okayama Korakuen Garden (in Okayama). There's lots more to do: step into the grandiose world of Himeji Castle, admire the natural beauty at Koko-en Garden, stroll around Kunimi no Mori Park, and take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Takamikura.
