Facing Mutsu Bay on the northernmost tip of Honshu, Aomori is a bustling regional capital known for its fresh seafood and modern architecture.

You can take a train from Sendai to Aomori in 2.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or fly. Traveling from Sendai in August, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be little chillier in Aomori, with lows of 22°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Fri) early enough to travel to Towada.

Tucked away among the foothills of the Hakkoda mountain range, Towada tourism revolves around its eponymous lake and the surrounding national park.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Sat): admire the masterpieces at Towada Art Center, indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens, admire the sheer force of Choshi Otaki Waterfall, then contemplate the waterfront views at Oirase Mountain Stream, and finally contemplate the waterfront views at Kumoi no Taki Waterfall.

You can take a train from Aomori to Towada in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. In August, plan for daily highs up to 28°C, and evening lows to 25°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
