3 days in Taunggyi & Kalaw Itinerary

A major trading city in the mountains, Taunggyi offers good access to the plains and hills of the state.

Kick off your visit on the 19th (Fri): explore the ancient world of Indein Village. Here are some ideas for day two: examine the collection at Shan State Cultural Museum, admire the natural beauty at Floating Gardens, don't miss a visit to Khit Sunn Yin Lotus, Silk and Cotton Hand Weaving Centre, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Hpaung Daw U Pagoda, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery.

Yangon (Rangoon) to Taunggyi is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Finish your sightseeing early on the 20th (Sat) so you can drive to Kalaw.

Established by British civil servants as a summer resort, Kalaw retains much of its colonial feel.

Start off your visit on the 21st (Sun): make a trip to Thein Taung Pagoda Monastery, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Hnee Paya, and then don't miss a visit to Shwe Oo Min Pagoda.
