City of Oaks

For those not from the South, Raleigh might be one of the region's better-kept travel secrets.
Step off the beaten path and head to Historic Yates Mill County Park and Duke Lemur Center. For shopping fun, head to Artspace or Lafayette Village. Change things up with these side-trips from Raleigh: Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site (in Four Oaks), Carolina Tiger Rescue (in Pittsboro) and Ava Gardner Museum (in Smithfield). There's still lots to do: examine the collection at The Carolina Basketball Museum and learn more about the world around you at North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.

To find reviews, maps, other places to visit, and more tourist information, go to the Raleigh trip planner.

In June, daytime highs in Raleigh are 88°F, while nighttime lows are 66°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 24th (Mon) so you can travel back home.
