The political capital of Martinique, Fort-de-France has a thriving commercial center and a number of historic sites.
Do your shopping at Grand Marche and Aux Couleurs Locales. You'll get in some beach time at Anse Dufour and Les Salines Beach. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Fort-de-France: Anse Noire (in Les Anses d'Arlet) and La Savane des Esclaves (in Trois-Ilets). And it doesn't end there: take in nature's colorful creations at Jardin de Balata, view the masterpieces at Habitation Saint-Etienne, admire the landmark architecture of Schoelcher Library, and shop like a local with Galerie de Sophen.
