Harbor City

A small trading town in the 17th century, Kaohsiung now stands as a sprawling metropolis, its harbor representing the largest on the island.
On the 21st (Thu), don't miss a visit to The Dome of Light, admire the striking features of Formosa Boulevard Station, take in the exciting artwork at The Pier-2 Art Centre, head outdoors with Ai He (Love River), then ponder the world of politics at Kaohsiung Main Public Library, and finally see the interesting displays at Takao Railway Museum. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 22nd (Fri): head off the coast to Cijin Island, relax and rejuvenate at FuFu Spa, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fo Guang Shan, take an in-depth tour of Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, then explore the wide array of goods at Shinkong Mitsukoshi Mall (Kaohsiung Zuoying), and finally make a trip to Dragon Tiger Tower.

Taipei to Kaohsiung is an approximately 3-hour train ride. You can also drive; or fly. While traveling from Taipei, expect a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Kaohsiung, ranging from highs of 29°C to lows of 19°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Fri) so you can go by car to Tainan.

The oldest city in the country, Tainan stood as the island's capital during feudal times.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Sat): get to know the fascinating history of Anping Fort (Anping gubao), steep yourself in history at Anping Tree House, get to know the fascinating history of Shennong Street, then contemplate the long history of Chihkan Tower (Fort Provintia), then explore the wide array of goods at Hayashi Department Store, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Confucius Temple.

Traveling by car from Kaohsiung to Tainan takes an hour. Alternatively, you can take a train. In January, daily temperatures in Tainan can reach 29°C, while at night they dip to 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Sat) early enough to drive back home.
