Traveling by car from Paro to Thimphu takes 1.5 hours. In December, daily temperatures in Thimphu can reach 20°C, while at night they dip to 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sat) to allow time to drive to Punakha.

The imperial past feels present in Punakha, where an impressive fortress testifies to the heyday of this former capital of Bhutan.

Start off your visit on the 15th (Sun): take in the spiritual surroundings of Chimi L'hakhang Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Punakha Dzong, and then take in the views from Punakha Suspension Bridge.
